Dr. Shubhankar Barman is a Postdoctoral Researcher at New York University Abu Dhabi, where he investigates structure–property relationships in organic crystalline materials with a focus on piezoelectricity, ferroelectricity, and light–mechanical coupling. His research centers on noncentrosymmetric and polar molecular crystals, exploring their electromechanical and optoelectronic behaviors. He specializes in Piezoelectric Force Microscopy (PFM), Raman spectroscopy, dielectric spectroscopy, ferroelectric testing, and electromechanical energy-harvesting measurements. His work integrates molecular design with functional device engineering to develop next-generation sensing, photonic, and energy-harvesting technologies.
Organic ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and flexible molecular crystals; electromechanical coupling, piezotronics, piezophototronics, and energy-harvesting device prototypes.
Highlight
Developing a mechanical-to-electrical energy harvesting platform using plastic and elastic organic crystals, and studying strain- and light-modulated charge transport in molecular semiconductors.
Fun fact: When not working with crystals, Shubhankar enjoys playing badminton and unwinds by reading books.
